Changes...

Yesterday I was on the fence with some of the fabrics from this post and of course I changed my mind after digging through my fabric stash...no surprise there!!!  I had too many light colors so I took one out and added two in.  I am now happy with the results!

I will be using the polka dot fabric (from the other post) in some of the other pieces I will be making...and now on to the blocks!  Since the theme is "Twinkle, twinkle, little star"  and the main fabric has stars...I am doing wonky stars!

Each block has 17 pieces and will finish at 12 inches.  I have changed almost everything from my original sketch I did a couple of weeks ago, no surprise there either!

I will be doing a lot of posts in the next week on this project to keep the family in the loop so they can all see what is being made since this is all a gift from them for a family friend.  I will be back to my regular posts in a couple of weeks!!!  Until then...Happy Quilting!!

Ready, set, GO!!!

I love these fabrics but I may swap a couple out with something from my stash...I'm still on the fence, anyhow, these are for the baby quilt and other baby related items I will be making for Aunt Suzie and Family  to give for baby shower gifts for a dear friend.  The theme is "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" and we do not know if its a boy or girl.  The only thing I know is these colors were in a lot of the items on the mom's baby registry so hopefully I did not go wrong there!!!
Here is a list of what I will be making...
1. Quilt
2. Receiving Blanket
3. Hooded bath towel and washcloth
4. Burp cloths
5. Travel changing pad w/ diaper and wipe holders
6. anything else I can think of!

Happy Quilting!

Friday Finish!

Isn't she cute?  We worked on this little gift from the "Tube Fairy" for the last two evenings and finished it last night!  My little lady had a lot of fun and some frustration but we worked through it.  It came as a kit and instead of sewing with thread we sewed with ribbon and a flat plastic needle.
We are going to add a backing and quilt it on my machine to make it more durable because she has plans to take this everywhere!

Tube Fairy Gift!

This is what the "Tube Fairy" left for my daughter when she put both ear tubes out on Monday night.  She is over the moon excited to get started so that will be on the agenda for tonight!  Fun times!!!

What a busy day!

Wow, what a day!  We are finally home for the day and what a busy day it has been!  Today my youngest daughter had to go to her ENT doctor in Madison for a hearing test and check up.  She ended up having a tube removed from her right ear and it hurt!  She gave me the stink eye for a while because I let the doctor take it out.  Dr.  McMurray told her that the "Tube Fairy"  would come tonight now that she has both tubes to put out.  The "Tube Fairy" is the Tooth Fairy's not so pretty cousin, hmmm news to me!!!  Thanks Dr McMurray!!! Stay tuned to see what the "Tube Fairy" will bring!  To cheer my little girl up we went to...
And we had lots of fun, then we went to the fabric store and I had even more fun!  And , of course, bought MORE fabric...I have an idea rolling around in my head that has to be put into fabric as soon as possible!  I will try to start that tomorrow after the Spring Fling at my two youngest kids school.
We then had to stop at a couple of stores for groceries and had a long ride home.  Then came making supper...then off to the local quilt shop for my daughters Girl Scout Troop to learn how to sew.  We had 12 girls and it was crazy but lots of fun for all.  The best part for me was sewing on vintage Singer sewing machines! Here is what we made...
I had to guide the fabric while my little one worked the foot pedal, she was too short to do both!  This one was tough for me, we had to teach the girls how to pin the seams, which is something I very rarely do myself. I just put the pieces together and go!  But I did do it correctly for the sake of teaching.  We also taught a mom how to sew and she was buying fabric when I left and another mom was asking about a beginning quilters class!  I also found MORE fabric that I want for me, I may need help with my fabric addiction!  On second thought, no I don't!!!
I love the fabric the ladies at the shop chose, I am lovin' all the orange I've been seeing.  I love it so much I bought some today myself!

Happy Quilting!!!

What I am doing on a Thursday night...

My hubby is gone on a rescue squad call so I am...

Clipping coupons for a huge shopping trip this weekend.  We have lived off the grocery stash for almost a month now, so its time to restock the pantry!  I will be getting, among other things, 12 boxes of cereal for only $5.72!  That works out to be about .48 cents per box!! (Cheerios, Multi Grain Cheerios and Cocoa Puffs)

I have been reading this book, recommended by my sis in law.  She got to meet the author, Paul Stutzman, while hiking the Appalachian Trail (read day 9).  How awesome is that!  So far the book has been wonderful and and I am getting bit by the hiker bug!  I wish I could be out there hiking with my sis!  I also read another book, A Walk in the Woods, by Bill Bryson, about the trail and I loved it too!  Maybe I will have to put hiking on this trail on my "Bucket List"...

Did you know that there is a trail in Wisconsin that is about 1,000 miles long called the Ice Age National Scenic Trail  Maybe I can hike some of this one!  Part of it is only about 65 miles from my house!  That's doable for a weekend trip!

I am also listening to classical music and looking at quilt patterns for some more inspiration, Aunt Suzie called and needs a quilt set for a new baby in May.  The theme is twinkle, twinkle little star and I will hopefully combine traditional with modern!  I have some ideas that will hopefully work, I just need to make a few test blocks to see if whats in my head translates to fabric!

I still can't decide on a pattern for this fabric.  I had the choices narrowed down to two but then I looked at some magazines and books and of course the internet and that all went out the window!  Maybe I need to set this aside for a bit until the star quilt is done...

Happy Quilting!

Appalachian Trail Humor

As you may know, my Sister in Law is hiking the Appalachian Trail...she started on March 21 and has been on the trail for about 21 days now.  I had to borrow this from her blog( Hiking The Appalachian Trail) because her song is hilarious! For more laughs read Day 12!!!  When I read this post (day 12), I was waiting for my son to get x rays done at the childrens hospital and I laughed out loud and received many dirty looks from other waiting parents.  I had to do something to be entertained, the wait time posted was 90 minutes from original appointment time!!  Anyhow, here is Day 17, which made me laugh just as much!!

Day 17 (4/6/13)
My back is feeling better after a good nights sleep. The hike today seemed sooo long! I ended getting to the shelter around 6pm and went to bed shortly after. I've been hearing a lot of grouse drumming lately so the song 12 days of Christmas was stuck in my head. The only part I could remember was "and a partridge in a pear tree" so I made my own lyrics.
This is what mine sounded like:
12 white blazes
11 downed trees
10 stoned hikers
9 roots to trip on
8 moldering privies
7 types of wild flowers
6 mountain tops
5 zero days
4 birds a singing
3 crazy hiking partners
2 tired feet
And a partridge on the AT.

I found it (actually the Trickster did)

The other day I wrote a post about Inspiration for my next quilt, which will be for me and only me!  I did some fabric shopping and my youngest son found me the perfect fabric!  I already had the charm pack, Just Wing It, but needed an accent fabric.  My son looked at my inspiration colors and within a couple of minutes he found two fabrics that I loved but only one had enough yardage.
You can see my backing in there too!  Now I have to decide on a pattern.  I have two picked out but I can't get myself to choose!

We also had to go American Family Childrens Hospital for my sons follow up appointment from his surgery and we did not get good news.  The tumor he had removed is starting to come back!  We go back in 6 months for more tests and follow up.  So far there has been no pain and my son is not on any restrictions which makes him happy, but he told me he does not want surgery again...he may not have that choice in the future.  To cheer him up we went to Chuck E Cheese for lunch and guess what they have on the menu!!!

Everything is sealed until you open it at your table so there is no possibility of cross contamination, how awesome is that!?!  I have had two accidental gluten exposures in the last month and both have left me sick for three to four days.  Going out to eat is a little scary for me at this point, but its getting better!

Happy Quilting!!

Inspiration!

I know its a Christmas card but I fell in love with the colors.  My wonderful Grandma gave this one to my family and I saved it for future reference!  I just need a little more fabric and I can start my next quilt!

Family time

My family and I had a great Easter!  We went to...
This was the view from the backyard of the house our family rented for the weekend! Lambeau Field, Go Packers!!  My hubby's aunt & uncle live in Green Bay and we have been going there for the last 13 Easters.  The highlight of the weekend is Aunt Pat's Easter Egg/Easter Basket and Chocolate Bunny Hunt!  It's always my kids and my favorite part of the whole weekend...
We also went out for lunch to a restaurant called The Bar and they can make almost the whole menu gluten free.  I was going to get gf pizza but instead I ordered...
It-was-awesome!!!  The best cheeseburger I have had in a long time, the bread was like the real bread that I miss and love!
Here are two of my crazy kids on the way up to Green Bay...
They were headbanging to mom's music!   I think we were in the car too long!  It takes us about 4 hours to get there and its always "fun" family time.  We were missing my oldest son, he had to stay home and work.

Happy Quilting everyone!
